Sweet Potato Fries with Yoghurt Avocado Dip


If you know me, you know my LOVE for sweet potato fries. I can eat them with almost anything savoury: grilled veggies, fish/poultry/meat, fresh salads, with various dips, on their own, mix them in a buddha bowl, etc. I don't know what it is, but that sweet flesh with salt grains is just... I cannot say no. 

And while my love for sweet potatoes lasts I might as well enjoy it and pump some vitamins into my body. I heard it's a great source of Vitamins A & C, Manganese, Potassium, also a good source of Vitamins B6, B1 & B2 which makes it perfect for brain activity. It's a nice pre or post-workout snack (you probably already know how much active people like it) and anyone can cook it, trust me. All you need is an oven and a baking tray to make simple, but delicious sweet potato oven fries. Make some avocado-yoghurt dip on the side and invite friends over, but make sure you really do make A LOT.


Serves 2-4 as a side dish or snack | Hands on time: 15 minutes | Total time: 30 minutes



  • 2 medium sweet potatoes
  • 1 tbsp of coconut or sunflower seed oil
  • ground pepper
  • sea salt
  • 1/2 tbsp cornstarch (optional)


  • 1 smaller ripe avocado
  • 60 g of plain yoghurt (not greek)
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1/8 teaspoon of salt
  • a squeeze of lemon juice
  • olive oil for serving
  • a bunch of fresh dill and scallions for serving

MAKE THE SWEET POTATO FRIES: Preheat oven to 180°C (fan) or 200°C (no fan). Peel the sweet potatoes and cut them into more or less even sized sticks. Place in a bowl with the oil, cornstarch, a bit of ground black pepper (or a mixture of peppers, e.g.: green, red, white) and a pinch of sea salt. Toss to coat evenly then spread the fries on a prepared shallow baking tray and place in the oven for 15-20 minutes or until nicely browned.

MAKE THE YOGHURT & AVOCADO DIP: Place all of the avocado-yoghurt dip ingredients except olive oil and fresh herbs in a blender. Blend until you reach a desired consistency. You can make it completely smooth or leave it a bit chunky, whatever you prefer. Place the dip into a small bowl, garnish with olive oil and fresh herbs.

Once the fries are cooked, remove baking tray from the oven, transfer fries into a serving dish and serve immediately together with yoghurt & avocado dip.

NOTE: 1. Corn starch helps the fries to become more crunchy. You can omit it, this way you will end up with softer fries, but just as delicious. 2. It's important you use a shallow baking tray. This way your fries will be roasting rather than steaming. 3. Always arrange fries in a single layer on a baking tray in order to let them crisp up.
