How I Met Turmeric Lattes
I had my first ever turmeric latte in Berlin last autumn and I fell in love ever since. It was a slightly gloomy morning and I remember how inviting that creamy fragrant drink I laid my eyes on was... (who thought I could be so poetic). Anyway, I tried it and I liked it from the very first sip. I think it might have to do with the fact that I really like cinnamon, turmeric, ginger, coconut... you know, all the things that go into a turmeric latte. If you've never tried it, go ahead, give in to the unknown and taste this magical yellow drink. It might just become your favourite afternoon treat.
Why Drink Turmeric Latte
It's delicious! Really though, turmeric has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties which make it a great drink not just for colder months, but all year round. Turmeric also has a compound called curcumin which supports brain health (to all us, dummies, yay!) which makes it an even more desirable drink. Obviously, one drink won't make much of a difference, but if you're looking for a new drink to bring into your daily diet, I think this might be it.
Serves 1 | 1 cup - 250ml | 1 tablespoon - 15ml | 1 teaspoon - 5ml | Total time: 10 mins
- 1/4 cup of water
- 3/4 cup of rice, oat or other plant based milk
- 1-2 tablespoons of coconut milk
- 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric
- 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 2 teaspoons of fresh ginger juice (use garlic press)
- brown unrefined sugar, coconut palm sugar, maple syrup or honey to sweeten (optional)
Place water and the plant based milks in a saucepan and heat until hot, but not boiling. Mix other ingredients well in a cup then pour the hot liquid on top. Stir well to incorporate, sweeten to taste if needed and enjoy immediately.
